The Karamoja sub region is north eastern Uganda is made up of the Karamojong, Jie, Tepeth, Kadama, Ik, Dodoth, Pokot, Labwor, Mening, Nyangia people. They are all predominantly nomadic cattle keepers who are very passionate about their culture, heritage and traditions. Historically they have link to the tribes and clans who migrated from what is now the Omo Valley via the Turkana region of northern Kenya, some continued down to the Maasai regions of South West Kenya and North West Tanzania and others settled in northern and eastern Uganda.
The customs and ancestral beliefs within the region are as relevant and strong today as they have ever been, making it a truly unique place to visit and experience. Below is a 12 Day Safari that takes in all the incredible culture, landscape and wildlife that this area of Uganda has to offer.
Day 1; Arrive Entebbe airport meet and greet and, overnight at 2 Friends Beach Hotel.
Day 2; Drive to Jinja and visit the source of the Nile with a boat trip, overnight at 2 friends Guest House, FB
Day 3; Transfer to Sipi Falls via Mbale and hike to Sipi Falls area overnight at Sipi River Lodge, FB
Day 5; Drive to Moroto in Karamoja, afternoon visit to the Karamoja Museum and participate in the daily life of the inhabitant in the village. Overnight at Karamoja Safari Camp, FB
Day 6; Mount Moroto hiking Cultural tour and visit the Tepeth, Overnight at Karamoja Safari Camp, FB.
Day 7; Karamoja cycling tour, ride on the abandoned colonial roads in the communities and wilderness. Overnight at Karamoja Safari Camp, FB.
Day 8; Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park and an afternoon game drive. Overnight at Kidepo Savannah Lodge, FB
Day 9; Full day game drives in Kidepo and the Narus Valley, Overnight at Kidepo Savannah Lodge, FB
Day 10; Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park, Overnight at Pakuba Lodge FB.
Day 11; Morning Game drive in Murchison Falls and afternoon boat ride to the bottom of falls, Overnight at Pakuba Lodge FB.
Day 12; Transfer to Entebbe with and fly out
