Feb 2021 Rwanda safari COVID-19 update

In January 2021 Rwanda issued amended COVID19 testing protocols for all travellers entering Rwanda including tourists. These protocol have been further amended In a bid to try and stay one step ahead of the Corona Virus. The February 2021 update revolves around 3 areas summarised below

- Arriving passengers must have a negative PCR COVID19 test taken within 72 hours of departure.

- Passengers must complete a locator form, which will ask for the negative test result and confirmation of your 24hour stay at one of the designated hotels

- All arriving passengers will be subject to another COVID test ( $60 ) before quarantining in a designated hotel

- Test results will take 24hrs and can be checked online at the Rwanda Biomedical Centre RBC portal

-All departing passengers must have a negative PCR COVID19 test within 120 hours of departure. The waiting time for results is 48hours and test can be booked at the RBC website

- Please also check the COVID 19 protocol of transiting airports and your final destination to work out if you will need to take another COVID 19 test on your departure or if the test you took on arrival at the airport is still valid for you next destination.

Click here to get a list of all the designated hotels that passengers are allow to stay in whilst they await their COVID19 results on arrival. It is important to make sure you have a booking for one of these hotels as booking confirmation is one of the pieces of information you need to fill in the passenger locator form. Below is a list of all the documentation you will need:

  • Your passport information

  • Your travel details, including times and dates

  • Negative PCR COVID-19 test certificate for a test conducted within 72 hours prior to departure

  • Hotel Booking confirmation for arriving passengers, from the designated hotels, where you will spend 24 hours awaiting results of the COVID-19 test carried out upon arrival at the airport

  • Proof of short stay(less than 7 days) visit for Tourist and Business travellers



The rules regarding safari cancellation and postpones with respect to Gorilla and Chimpanzee permits as well as part entrance fees were officially communicated in the letter below.
