Uganda Wildlife Education Centre

The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre also known as Entebbe Zoo, was originally opened in 1952 as a place where wild animals that sick, injured, orphaned or confiscated from illegal trade could be looked after and cared for. In the 1960s the role of the establishment changed to a more traditional zoo, which also had non – indigenous animals like Tigers and Bears. The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre then changed again in the mid 90’s as it began to focus more of conservation and education. UWEC aims to create Uganda’s main ecosystems and habitats so that as many indigenous species can be seen at the zoon as well as a comprehensive understanding of the role they play in the environment
